43. Last Dance (695 words)
Theta/Koschei (With future Ten)
Koschei rubbed his eyes, groaning, he'd been up all night studying for the temporal physics exam tomorrow and he still had a chapter to go.
"Kos..." Theta whined from the bed, "sleeeeeeep. Come to bed," he insisted petulantly.
"Theta, I've got the temporal physics exam tomorrow, we both have, I've got to study. You think you'll just sail through it on a wing and a prayer," Koschei turned to smirk at his roommate... and bedmate... and he strongly suspected soul mate, but he hesitated to say it out loud. Theta pouted adorable and threw his pillow at the overly studious Koschei.
"Hey, hey, hey! No need to get violent," Koschei chastised lightly, almost laughing at Theta's childish response, as he retrieved the pillow and his textbook. He tossed the pillow aside so it could no longer be used as a projectile and return his textbook to his desk, adjusted the lamp, and resumed poring over the odious material.
"Fine, if you're going to be that way about it," Theta sat up, fully awake now, and trotted over to Koschei's desk. He put a hand over the page he was reading and leaned against the desk, "Dance with me."
"Theta..." Koschei whined, leaning back in his chair, knowing he'd never get his book back by trying to fight him.
"Dance with me," Theta repeated firmly, widening his baby blue eyes to a size Koschei would never be able to resist.
Koschei groaned, "It's two in the morning! What do you want to dance for?"
"Because you're a good dancer, Kos," Theta said, pulling him out of the chair, knowing that that was as close as Koschei came to admitting defeat.
"Hmmph," Koschei answered, kicking the pillow out of the way so they'd have a little more room in their admittedly not large bedroom.
Theta snuggled into his arms, half-naked and sleep-deprived, and sighed. He was exactly where he wanted to be. Koschei laid his head on Theta's and obligingly wrapped around him tightly, swaying to an imagined beat. "Do you want a tango or a samba then?" he murmured.
"Kos," Theta stepped on his foot in mild annoyance, "just shut up and hold me. Wait, no, actually, don't shut up, I love the sound of your voice. ...sing for me?" he begged.
"No," Koschei put his foot down.
"Aw, please Kos?"
"No."
"But it feels silly dancing with no music."
"Well then you shouldn't have asked me at two in the morning," Koschei retorted firmly. Feeling Theta coming over with one of his unstoppable pouts, though, Koschei gave in, "Alright, alright... I'll hum."
Theta smiled into his shoulder, "Mmmmm... 'kay."
Koschei snorted and shook his head slightly. He then struck up a tune quietly, more a lullaby than something you'd dance to, which was perhaps Koschei's purpose.
Soon Theta grew limp and heavy in his arms and slowly Koschei began to lay him back into bed.
"Kos..." Theta managed to whine, clinging onto him, "don't- don't go... stay... sleep with me..."
"I'm just going to turn out the lamp, Theta," Koschei whispered softly and did just that before crawling into bed with Theta like he promised.
"Mmmmmm..." Theta sighed happily as he felt Koschei slide into bed next to him. He snuggled back into his arms and sighed again, "I love you... Koschei," he murmured before slipping into total sleep. Koschei stroked his soft, blonde hair absently, "I love you too, Theta."

"Dance with me," Reinette Poisson was saying.
The Doctor shook out of his reverie, "I can't."
"Dance with me," she repeated obstinately, reminding him way too much of himself all those long years ago.
"This is the night you dance with the king!" he quickly formed an excuse. He wasn't about to admit that the last person he'd danced with was Koschei and out of sheer romanticism he'd danced with no one else since.
"Then first I shall make him jealous."
"I can't," he tried one last time.
"Doctor," she started seriously, but that wasn't his name... that wasn't really his name anymore than Fireplace Man was, "Doctor who? It's more than just a secret isn't it."
Oh, Reinette... you have NO idea...

Music
The Doctor sat on board the TARDIS, at a grand piano, playing, just playing
why he had a piano aboard the TARDIS he still wasn't quite sure, but he did love playing it, as he always had. All it was missing was someone to duet with him
but only one person knew how to do the perfect duet with him
they could both improvise and yet it still worked perfectly. He smiled, as memories danced to his mind of times long since past
He never did find out where his Koschei managed to get a piano from, but nor did he particularly mind
he'd always wanted to try one out ever since he'd read about them in one of his books about E

Changes
The Doctor stepped out of the TARDIS door, face in a wide grin, excitement radiating from him as he turned to take in his surroundings. Even after 900 odd years of travelling the universe in a Police box, it never got old. The prospect of a new world, with new people, customs, friends, enemies, threats, and everything was still as exciting to him as the day he'd first set foot on an alien world all those years ago. Back when he'd still been Theta Sigma, a mere student at the academy on Gallifrey, ignorant and naïve. Back when there'd still been a Gallifrey. Back before... Well it didn't do to dwell on that. He couldn't change it... But b

Embrace
Theta was sat in his room, waiting
waiting for that familiar knock, for the footsteps, the sound of that voice which he loved so much, the laughter, and then the sight of his wonderful Koschei coming through the door, with that brilliant smile which made his hearts skip a beat
He sighed, it had been a long holiday, and Koschei's family had forbidden him seeing Theta, but soon
class would start and he would once again be able to see his Koschei, hold him close and fall in love with him all over again. It was far too long since he'd last seen him
term time, they were inseparable, never letting go of each other, and barel

Awwh! I love how you've mingled Academy era and Reinette! I've always liked to think when she was nosing at the Doctor's childhood that she got a glimpse of whatever happened with Theta and Koschei too.
I love how petulant and fickle Theta is, it suits him! (:
